How it started

Updot started when Thomas Ashton found himself having to build back strength in his lower body following an incident. During his recovery he found that he needed to be very aware of how long he spent on his feet. The first versions of the device that he created soon became a reliable part of his daily life. Now Thomas is working to bring this device to everyone.

Which clothes does Updot work with?

Updot works well with most clothing worn on your legs, such as trousers, leggings and shorts. Its magnetic clip attaches securely without causing damage. It may be less accurate with very loose clothing, skirts or dresses.

How is Updot different from a smartwatch?

Most devices focus on movement, detecting steps and activity. Updot is different: it measures time on your feet. This includes time when you are standing still, as well as walking or moving around.

Why not just use step count?

Step count can be useful, but it doesn’t capture everything. Activities like cooking, standing at a desk, or standing to chat with a friend may involve little or no steps, but still take time and effort. Updot is designed to make that visible.

When will Updot be available?

Updot will be generally available later in 2026. There will be some opportunities to test it before release. To be kept informed, register your interest.
